Well, a funny thing happened on the way to the top of the tower last Thursday.
At about 65', the pully off the mast decided to let go. Still haven't found all
the parts to the thing, and have yet to have a word of prayer with the manf.
( After all, the thing was only rated at 480 lbs ) BUT
Would like recommendations from you guys with full size 3 element 40s on what
to replace it with. I am primarily interested in stength, as we are subject to
icing here, and of course performance. Emphasis again on FULL size on all
elements...Will summarize if enough responses.

Typically a guy that enters the 48 hour
category (seriously) will operate 42 - 45 hours. I think most of the
guys that do this category will tell you that 3 hours of sleep will do
you more good than actually missing the operating time.
So... The difference between a 36 hour contest and a 42 hour contest
really isn't that much. Here in the USA it also gives the guys in the NE
their advantage back. When it was 30 hours, the guys in California could
typically find 30 hours in which they could run guys. The guys in the NE
would have to select 30 hours of the possible 40 they could run. Ya the
guys in the NE still win, but the guy in California feels like he has a
chance and thus gets on the air. The way it is now... well, when was
the last time KKN did WPX SSB from QHS?

AND....for those of us who aren't exactly in the World Class CW
Operator (tm) category, it helps to have a paddle and keyer in
line with the computer CW line if you get discombobulated and
need to finish the QSO before you embarrass yourself further....
Whilst on my soapbox, and short guys like ME need soapboxes,
I'd like to remind all World Class contesters that all contesters
aren't World Class. Some of us even use pencil and paper for
just the fun-few-minutes we have to jump in and hand out a few
Q's. Some of us just have wire antennas. Some of us might not
even have a computer. But if we weren't there, how many SS, ARRL,
CQWW, etc., QSO's would you have????? I think this thread was
unraveled a few days ago, so I'll say good night.

Damn straight! Infact lets take it a step further and require all renewals
take the code and theory elements for the ticket class they hold. We don't
need any of the trash on the bands that can't keep up on their code and
theory. The renewal period
should be shortened to 5 years so we can keep the weeds out of the garden.

Right on Comrade!! It is those damn no-code taking jobs from Americans
and running our economy into the ground. Hey, didn't our taxes go up
about the time the no-coders slipped in?? You won't ever catch an
American who knows code with a rig not made in America!

It is a friggen crime!! Only a person that can copy CW should have the
privilage
to buy foriegn made goods. Last thing I want is some guy in Japan laughing
to himself knowing he just build a Yaesu rig for some jerk that can't copy CW.
I want to crush that guys feelings and send him the message that that Yaesu is
going to a guy that can copy CW. Yea, that will ruin his day!

Yea, and I heard that this memeber has held all the reat of the evil ARRL
members hostage with a gun and forced his ideas on them. They are now under
his and only his mind control.

Those scurvy no-coders. The first thing they will do is try and

Why would anybody want to follow a person with such a closed mind? Though we
both may want to "save the bands" you seem to fit the image of the Ham radio
shinhead, or the bigot on the block. You spin a story but have no
facts to back any of it up. Next you are going to tell us the no-coders are
causing global warming because so many are on uhf/vhf warming the clouds.
Like I said, let's go with a 5 year renewal period and retake the
elements and CW test for your currentl held ticket class. That way we can
save the bands
and send those foriegn devils a message. Not just any American will buy your
stuff, only American CW ops!!
