Yep - N5CR used to bring a pair to N5AU.
They do block out noise quite well but I never could wear them
for more then a few minutes becasue they were so tight
it felt if my head was in a vice.
I used to make my own headsets from AKG headphones and Heil
boom mikes. The current Heil proset works very well - I see
no point in building headsets any longer.

Maybe to to a point, But Packet adds other skills required for the
COMPETITIVE Single/Op Assisted that are not used by the Single/Op.
I agree that S/O is the the Class to be in.....But for us on the West
Coast with NO EU runs, It adds a bit of fun to the contest....
Please dont condem the accomplishments that operators have made in the
Assisted category because they used packet....
Back to reading about " How to fry your neighbour with RF"!!

I've used a David Clark set several times. They work great -- just
plug them into the headphone jack of my TS-430S & away we go. Only problem
I've ever had was they're HOT! Gotta have good air conditioning or I can't use
'em.
Of course, in a Cessna at 8500 feet, it's cool enough. 8-)

I have a stupid question. If a network of stations uses an octopus switch
to permit only one signal on the air at a given time, how can they
possibly compete with a multi-multi that has multiple signals on the air
at a given time.

Which begs the question -- in this day of instant tune radios, amplifiers
and antenna tuners, computerized networks of stations and multiplier
sharing, why do we prohibit "octopus" operation?
Perhaps the problem with the rule is that it has become outdated with the
march of technology.
Perhaps multi-single needs to be defined as multiple operators working a
single transmitter, as I'm sure the rules originally intended.
Or perhaps I'm missing something.
6 band changes an hour? Funny how some of the top SO2R operators can make
nearly a 100 band changes in a 4-hour sprint yet multi/single ops are
only permitted 6.
