I TOTALLY AGREE !!!! Please make an effort to start on 40 meters this
contest if you are on the east coast. You'll find less competition and
probably faster QSO's. You'll also avoid those fancy footed Oregoneans
who have two radios on the same band.
Let's also make an effort to listen between 14055 - 14065 for back scatter
QSO's. Drop a CQ there.

Our early Magellian GPS unit differs from the TMS tiger digital
maps at the third decimal place ( dithers by one or two numbers)
for both lat and long readings. This translates to from just about one
to as many as seven or so arcseconds or a few hundred feet
of deliberate Dept. of Def GPS signal dither.
This agrees pretty well with the aircraft GPS unit reported by
K8DO. On Kauai, both FEMA and the US Military emergency
folks converged on us after Hurricane Iniki visited us about
4 years ago. The result was the military people could
not find many people who they had heard about that needed help:
the available maps, mostly for tourist site seeing, did
not show all the roads; and many homes had no street
address! Now we have an island ordinance that says
all homes must have addresses and roads, names!
Hawaiians hadn't bothered with such details, as nearly
everyone gets their mail via PO Boxes. So Kauai
was evidently mapped in detail by the DOD, I suppose form the
air and the maps digitized. Now we are as will located lat/long
on the globe as anyone on the mainland, I would gress.
So, I believe the tiger map is as reliable, or better than
the current dithered GPS signal for spotting one's individual
QTH, certainly out here!

I use the well known "LPL Bandpass Filter" in front of my ARR preamps on
160 and 80M. These are the same inexpensive bandpass filters used by
many contesters since the late 70s.

W3LPL RECEIVING BANDPASS FILTERS
Receive only filters optimized for minimal loss and very high rejection of
frequencies below 75% of the filter center frequency.
These filters use very high "Q" high impedance resonators consisting
of powdered iron core inductors and silver mica capacitors. The resonators
are lightly top coupled to each other with minimum value silver mica
capacitors.
C1/C2 and C6/C7 form capacitive voltage dividers to match the input and
output resonators to 50 ohms.
Be sure to use good quality RF connectors (UHF, BNC or N; not phono!)
Do not substitute cheap inductors or capacitors! The components specified
below are not difficult to find, nor are they expensive.

intergalactic standard for QRP contesting and cigar smoking.
I think Danny is right. What about the people who aren't on Internet and
don't have the plan? Willy-nilly has worked for years.
And I don't see why you couldn't win SS from Ohio if things got "right".
The only thing that stays the same is that things change.

As of Saturday morning, we have a few more changes: WB0OLA is replaced by
K7LR on team 1, NX7K is replaced by WA0RJY on team 2, AC5CT is replaced by
K7CW on team 2, and AA4GA will be using his own call on team 1. However,
we DO have two full teams, so go to it you low-power rascals! If there
are any further changes, I'll post them around 3PM PDST. Both 20 and 40
sound good this morning, so we should be able to make hay!

Need a source for a rig interface for my TS-850 and my pc.
I have one from DX solutions but its not working, not sure if its the
cable or the box itself. I don't think they're in business anymore
though.
I skimmed through qst and cq and couldn't find a source (or I may just
be blind).
I'd like the type that has the circuit built into the connector and
draws power from the pc.

Hi Richard,
you might be interested to homebrew one. Why don`t you have a look at
the
circuit diagram and information I have on my Web Page (address below).
2 circuits for KENWOOD/ICOM rigs. Homemade equipment are greater fun to
use!!!!
If anybody has info/diagram for the YAESU rigs, let me know and I
will use it to update my web page.

Clay County DX Assocciation (CCDXA), located in north Florida, will be
M/S entry in CQWW SSB this October. We will be operating from St. Croix
in the USVI. A place has been rented. Most of the equipment is in place.
At present time we have five operators. There is room for one more!!!

the rental home and car will be about $375.00. Airline fee from JAX

Just a couple of quick notes.
While the design is similar, the 1022B (new style, smaller ring) goes together
easier than the older ones and is less likely to have these types of
problems. Unfortunately, they also changed the motor on the 1022B's and they
dont spin quite as fast or as powerfully as the older ones, but they
seem adequate for all but the largest antennas (without adding a second motor).
They have not revised the 1032 (for towers over 18" on a face), so it's tougher.
Gee, maybe we need ring rotor reflector??...or maybe just a rotator reflector?
