There are several fishy things about the Dayton Crowne Plaza.
Last year I had a confirmed room, in writing. Took the precaution of
checking about five days in advance - it had gone - "no record"! My
confirmation slip meant nothing.
I have another written confirmation this time. I called at 8am EDT
sharp on that first morning, was put on hold for 50 minutes, and
finally got the next-to-last available room. Decided to check on that
precious room regularly . Called the Crowne Plaza national number,
only to be told that they couldn't help because the Dayton hotel
keeps all reservations locally for special events. Hmmmm.
My assumption has been that big DX/contest clubs were reserving
blocks before the individual booking deadline. Perhaps the true
explanation is sleazier? If so, how can I get in on the deal next
year?
