Jim (EKM), et al:

You missed the key element of this...namely spotting "your friend" MULTIPLE 
TIMES.

Nobody gives a hoot if you spot your friend.  But if you are pumping out 
his/her callsign, well that is not spotting, that is FEEDING your friend's call 
and you are helping his score.

Finally, for the commenters who state "only if counts as points" are being a 
bit geocentric.  Think about other parts of the world where folks can a mile 
apart but in different countries or even different continents.

This is not a difficult concept.  Random spotting is fine.  If you are spotting 
your buds/friends multiple times, it is not fine.
