Last week the event really took off, with rates above 100/hour
for the first time and lots of new stations participating.
Remember, we're encouraging newcomers to participate by keeping the
speed around 20 wpm for at least the first 10 minutes, and exercising
special courtesy to the several slower stations during the entire
contest.
Do we monitor the cw speed? No. But please follow the lead of Mike
W9RE, and others who have made a particular effort to give special
consideration to cw newcomers. Here are a couple hints.
-- If you work N6RO in the first 10 minutes and you're K4BAI, fine
to do a fast exchange, but slow down when soliciting a call. Maybe
program a message to adjust the speed during the exchange.
-- If three stations are calling you, two fast and one slow, consider
giving preference to the slower station at any time.
Thanks again to all who have participated in this new event. Remember
to report scores to www.hornucopia.com where, courtesy of Bruce, there's
a fresh form each week. And since we count only your top 8
scores out of up to 11 NS events, there's still a chance for everyone
to win a California wine award.
