Yes, I have also noticed this.
I beleive that some people prefer to listen with a higher or lower pich than
the "right one". But they forget to adjust the rit (xit)to their preferring
listening tone.
+- 100 hz is okay with me, then you can separate 3 same level calling stations
if they are not exactly on the same frequency.
In CW mode there are not an easy thing to zero beat in todays tranceivers since
it is no DSB and the tranceivers are not on the right frequency if you actually
zerobeat...
