I read with great interest Dave's post on a newbie skimmer experience
having not tried or heard it myself.

One thing that I wanted to comment on was the packet experience vs
finding mults. As a Low Power op I utilize every advantage I can get
and stay legal of course. I have noticed that because tuning has gotten
lazy these days by many people, it is quite possible to work good, weak
DX, easily before the packet pileup has arrived. In a contest like CQ
WW, it is amazing how much good DX is unspotted when you tune deep in a
band like 20M or 40M. I can't tell you how many time I have pulled a
juicy mult on one call and then seen 30 mins later a big pile-up.

Yes, its not like the good old days, but its fun to steal the crumbs
before the big flock of pigeons notices the lady sitting on the park
bench throwing them up in the air.
