Being in the middle of log checking, I cannot at all believe that a
casually interested person could get past one or two logs without
finding something more interesting to do, like trim their fingernails,
or to watch the grass grow in the yard. The only reason a person would
want this sort of access is if they had an agenda. My agenda is I have
to check them to come up with final scores. What is yours?
=======================
Several things:
1. Inspect the log of top entries that seem way out of the realm of other
competitors. As good as log checking and analysis by the contest sponsors
might be, other inquiring minds may find other means of analysis. The prime
example is work done by ES5TV and VE5ZX analyzing differences between Single
Op
and Single Op assisted entries. A result of this was the DQ of the top
claimed single op score in the 2006 CQWW CW contest.
2. See how competitors, or those with whom we aspire to some day be
competitors, are doing what they do. Rates, number of second radio qsos, how
much
S&P operation they do, what time they change bands in the morning or evening,
etc.
3. Look at the logs of people with whom we busted qsos. Did they just not
log us, did they log someone else with a similar callsign, did they just blow
our call beyond recognition?
4. Look at a sample of logs by relatively casual entrants to see whom they
are working from my own area, on what bands or what times.
5. Get an idea of operating strategy for a location where we are going,
from where we have never operated before.
In short, mostly an agenda of self improvement, plus checking out the
occasional, rare, person suspected of cheating.
