It was a science teacher offering an after school course in electronics
and radio communications that caught my eye. 8TH grade.

My parents, seeing my interest, bought me a Heathkit HW-8 for Christmas
that year. The rest is history. 32 years and still just as interested if
not more.

For my children, my daughter especially, who is now a general, it was
getting them involved in Field Day with my contest buddies and Kid's
Day. That combo and just letting them spin the knobs and explore along
with trying to create excitement when I would work a new DXCC country or
have some success in contesting helps keep them remain somewhat interested.

The competition for us vs other forms of "entertainment" and avenues of
communication is fierce!

Kirk, N0KK
