Setting TRN to "ON" did the trick. I think that's what Jim had in mind when he
said a setting to make the radio "babble."
I don't know how I missed that. I thought I looked at all the CI-V settings.

about every second or so and works smoothly with them.
So it's down to "why doesn't CTWin keep polling the IC-706MKIIG for data after
the initial set?"
