After a false start I did the RTFM thing and realized that CT-Win CW keying
does not work through a COM port. But I got it working through the LPT port on
my old but still good Compaq Presario 1700 laptop running Windows XP. For my
next step I wanted to add paddle input. I connected the paddles to pins 12 and
13 of the LPT port, with 10K pullups to pin 14, and a voltmeter shows the
voltage at these pins is getting pulled down properly when the paddles are
operated, but CT-Win is not responding. I'd appreciate help or suggestions from
anybody. Things that come to mind are, (a) possibly there is some additional
configuration of the LPT port needed, or (b) maybe there is a reason it just
will not work on this model laptop.
Slowly I'm coming into the 21st century. I'm not yet aspiring to any more
advanced kind of rig control than c.w. keying and I fear some day I'll have to
move up to N1MM or Win-Test. But I like and know how to use CT and hope I can
keep up with it until I have to give up on Windows XP.
Thanks in advance for any advice,
