Sometimes simpler is better...you get better bearings off the side nulls on
yagis. I have had good luck with a battery powered sw receiver with a
loopstick, nulls are very sharp on the ends and can give decent bearings.
Forget trying to build tuned or shielded loops, just a couple turns of heavy
insulated wire about 1' in diameter on a wood stick also gives good
bearings. Using a short vertical on lower hf bands on a car with sw or ham
rx can get you close to a source with a simple grid search... signal too
strong? stick a 3" wire in the so239 inside the car, too strong for that
just leave off the antenna entirely and drive right to the house.... if that
doesn't get you there it is probably multiple sources and being carried on
power or other wires on the poles.
