The jack for an external antenna works just fine at HF too...I use it with a
National RF, Inc amplified handheld loop. The cable connects to a separate
switchable attenuator (Elecraft AT1). Loops are available that cover ranges
from 160m to VHF. Works very well.

No need for a mod -- there's a 1/8-in jack near the top of the left side. I
don't know how low in frequency it works, but it's good at VHF.
