Hi Mike,

Necessary is such yes/no, go, no-go question... Perhaps a different question might be, which is best...

Answering the "which is best" question-- in my opinion, a sine-wave type of generator is best. Less issues with RF spray, among other issues...

I use a Honda EU2000, and have had zero issues with it. I keep it at lease 50 feet from any antenna. Our club has a non sine-wave generator, and the noise floor increases when it is running at the same distance. I am sure if you moved the non sine-wave generator a few hundred feet away, things would quiet down. That brings up other issues, like voltage drop in the extension cord to the shack... That and the non Honda generator is loud, while the Honda is not... It is a blended decision as to which is best...

You be the judge...

73, and thanks,

I've been following this discussion. All I can add is I haven't had a problem
with RFI during FD using my Honda generators.
What I was wondering was, nobody mentioned the sine wave output of the
generator. I've always read that a pure sine was good for electronics.
Necessary or not?
