Hi Tony,

Yes, I agree that there are some VERY bad signals out there, with spurs all
over the place, and signals that chase all over the bands due to AFC and
NET.

BUT, I also have to say that most software includes help files that are
simply not read.
This may in part be due to the fact that the help is predominantly written
in English, which is not the native language of many users.
I am involved with the MMTTY help file, and there is a information on
setting up a clean signal that won't wander around the bands. However, that
does not mean folk will actually read it.
Have you ever tried to suggest to someone you are working that they are
overdriving the soundcard? In my experience, it is not usually well
received.

Also, any repository for the sort of signals that were being talked about is
only likely to be accessed by the sort of folk who already know about clean
signals. I think the object of the repository (yeah! I like that word!) was
to have samples of signals affected by various natural phenomena such as
polar flutter, aurora, multi-path propagation etc, and the various MMTTY
settings that made for the best decode of that signal.
I know I did suggest a sample of a bad signal, but having considered that, I
guess we all know what they sound like! And different MMTTY settings are not
going to make any difference to the decode.
The originators of these signals also do not subscribe to this or any other
reflectors either!

Anyway, 73 for now
Phil GU0SUP
