I read your PRO III note interestingly. 
I agree with you 99%. 
Please make me add 1%. :-)

TPF may work fine in a special case. (not alway) 
It is the detection of a very weak signal which hid in the big noise. 
Please try on the worst case before abandoning it. 

Switch ON TPF, and Rreduce RF Gain to S9. 

I think that TPF is a too strong medicine.
