I am using a 3 transistor version. It has worked well on my IC-735 since 1987.
It's housed in a "Sucrets" can along with the audio isolation transformers.

The In914 and 10 MFD capacitor from the Tx line to Ground provides the negative bias for the Rx line.

Has anyone used the "transistor type" of serial to TTL (CI-V) converter? Had
any issues? I've built one with the MAX232 chip and
it works fine.

If anyone has had issues with a transistor type, please let me know.
