When you use the PORTS command to assign serial comm ports,
SD (and the others including SDI) needs to verify that it
can "see" the port.  To do this, it attempts to "open" the
port.  If any error is returned SDI assumes the port does
not exist.

Here's an independent way of verifying serial port numbers.
I've found it to be consistent with what SDI sees.

With Microkeyer running, select Start / Settings / Control Panel /
System / Hardware / Device Manager / Ports (COM & LPT) 

This is the sequence with WinXP.
Let me know if SDI still does not work as expected.
