Not a great way for me to start my very first SSB contest (practice)! I was
set up and ready to go on 75m last night, but heard absolutely no one
calling 'CQ NA'. So that made me go back and check my time conversion from
'Z' to EST..hihi. I finally heard one station on 75m calling CQ NA, so I
dropped down about 4kc and did my own CQ'in. Anyway in 15 minutes I had 9
QSO's including one with a 'good ole boy' who did not know what contest was.
Then at 10 pm I dropped down to 3610 to report my score but I never heard a
sole reporting NAQP scores on that frequency?
But once I got started, I enjoyed it. I had my four voice messages set up in
my IC-7700 memories and they seemed to play pretty well. Looking forward to
my first SSB contest on Saturday.

FT1000MP, 100 watts, 88' center fed zepp up 45'; 1/2 wave 40M dipole up 40';
"t"
vertical. This was the slowest Thursday night ever. Two QSOs in SNS (W9RE,
W5JBV, both gave me #1 at the end of the practice session). Called CQ
Contest
for almost 30 minutes on 40, 80, and 160 SSB and got NO answers. Heard and
worked K2XA on 80 and 160 (welcome back, Saul), and N4OX and K4AB on 160M.
Other two contacts were stations I answered their CQs, WB2WIK in Los Angeles
on
40 and NP4G on 75). Hope this is no predictor of activity this weekend.
No,
know it was not, but it may indicate how bad propagation conditions are
likely
to be. Silver lining was working one of the two QRP 40M Foxes tonight, that
being NG7Z, Paul. Will likely miss all or most of the Friday night
practice.
But, hope for many QSOs on many bands in the real NAQP on Saturday. 73,
John,
K4BAI.
