Wow, this was fun. Basically haven't been on 160 since operating Multi with
W4WA about a sunspot cycle ago. Saturday afternoon I put up my first-ever 160
antenna and put in a few hours Saturday night. QRP is pretty neat, in that a
receive antenna setup isn't as necessary as it would be with 100 Watts or more.
Was able to get a small run or two going, which was surprising...even had an LX
hear my signal on a QSB peak, but it didn't last long enough for us to complete
the QSO. My guess is that condx were pretty good...wish I had some experience
to compare with. I heard a lot of European DX that I had no shot at,
as well as a few
South and Central American stations. I heard all of the lower 48
states except WV and
WY, and only missed 10 counting KH6 and KL7.
I should have done this earlier in the season! Hopefully the antenna will
still be up next winter!
KX3 at 5 watts to Inverted-L (about 65' vertical and 70' horizontal,
feed at about 12', with 3 resonant
radials)
