Lee, AA4GA has a great article on operating QRP in the current issue of CQ 
Magazine (Feb 2016).  Great tips and what to use.

I tried QRP with my beams in 1978 and again in 1984 and it is surprising what 
you can do.  Remember you are only down 10 DB or so from 100 watts.  I salute 
Lee for trying with less than optimum antennas.
