I found the same answer as Steve. The "Expand" question needed to be
toggled in the BIOS

I had the same issue with 2 borrowed Toshiba laptops. In the BIOS
settings, there was an option related to display size (I forget exactly
what it was called). When I changed it to "Expanded", all was well, and
I had a full size screen.
