What?s a vade mecum? "Vade mecum" means literally "go with me" in Latin.
According to Webster?s New World Dictionary, it is "something carried about
by a person for constant use, reference, etc., as a handbook or manual."
This double-sided laminated 7 1/2 X 9 7/8 inch vade mecum quick reference
card is intended first as a handy reference for Ten-Tec OMNI VI+ owners who
have already read the Operator?s Manual. Even long-term OMNI VI+ owners can
use the vade mecum to remind them of a number of features of this
sophisticated transceiver which they may have neglected. Reading through
the vade mecum would be a fine warm-up before a major operating event. It?s
also great for amateur radio operators who want to learn more about the OMNI
VI+ "bells and whistles" before buying the rig.
The Ten-Tec OMNI VI+ is a competition-grade all-mode transceiver covering
the amateur bands from 160-m through 10-m. Its receiver quality is
generally acknowledged to be superior to any other transceiver in its price
class. The receiver is not designed for general coverage or AM mode. It is
optimized without compromise for the modes which most radio amateurs
actually use, including the new ones generated by computer.
The vade mecum quick reference card is divided into two sections:
BASIC CONTROLS
The most important uses for each control, button, switch and knob on the
OMNI VI+ are summarized. Unlike many other transceivers on the market,
day-to-day control of the OMNI VI+ can be accomplished through these
immediately-accessible front-panel facilities. The rig is sized generously
for desktop operation, so these basic controls are widely spaced and easy to
access.
USER OPTION MENUS
There are three separate user option menus containing a total of 16
items,
five in Menu 1, four in Menu 2 and seven in Menu 3. After initial set-up
operators will seldom change these items, but when moving, say, from using
the transceiver for rag-chewing to preparing it for a contest weekend, the
vade mecum makes changing the user options easy.
