I did experience the 40m chirp problem; and I did have the radio
reset itself several times so that I lost the memories. However, the
version 1.04 firmware seems to have corrected both of these.
I definitely miss the RF Gain control and would like to see the radio
receive down to about 100kHz so that I could listen for navigational
beacons etc. I would also like to be able to set the meter function
to read reflected or SWR without needing to push a button while in
transmit modes.
Nonetheless, the Argo V is a very good radio for the price. It is
going to stay in my shack and I use it regularly. While I am mostly
a CW op., I get good audio reports when using it on SSB from time to
time.
Ten Tec's service department is unbeatable. You won't be sorry if
you buy an Argo V.
