Until I got my new Orion, I never used QSK on the run (CQ) radio when
contesting in SO2R mode. I did use it off-and-on when S&Ping, though that's
generally not as important. The reason I didn't use QSK is that it is
incredibly noisy and fatiguing on rigs other than Ten-Tec's. There's a lot
of thumping and bumping and the AGC recovery time is usually not fast
enough. I would call it useless. The Orion's QSK, however, is excellent and
I used it 100% of the time in ARRL SS CW this weekend, for over 1000 QSOs.
Very little noise (just a minor click in the headphones) and no fatigue at
all. I caught many callers right after I started my CQ. No disagreement that
QSK is great for that, but you have to have a Ten Tec rig to use it!
