I keep a few pieces of rubber and poly tubing around to cut to the right length and slip over bits when needed.

A cotton ball on a stick (like a large Q-tip) makes a good aluminum chip magnet for picking up filings.

I recommend you also put a piece of sticky tape behind the spot where the
hole is going.  That will help catch the fine metal shavings that drilling
produces.  Making random connections between PCB traces isn't good for the
rig.
