Gary,
I can't believe it. Yesterday I got an e-mail and a 311 is on the way. I did
scan your project and will read it in more depth next week. With the
availaboilty of N1MM to give me band data, I may build up an antenna switch for
something to do if some spare time comes up.
I really appreciate the offer of help if needed and will keep this e-mail on
file.
Now, let's find some DX

Happy New Year Dave!
I'm 66 and do not want to build surface mount when I can avoid it. My band
decoder uses a board assembly from United Microsystems (about $20) and DIP
relays mounted on a project board. You do need N1MM or a logging program
which can send array data to a parallel port to the decoder board which then
pulls in the proper relay to put voltage on the correct cable pin.
It sounds like you have the experience, desire, and need to build a decoder
if you can't find a 311. If you have to build and have questions, drop me a
line... I can call you on Skype or set a sked if needed.

Gary,
Thanks for the reply.
I do have a schematic of the 311, so I can build one if necessary. Of
course, the most difficult part will be cross-referencing all the surface
mount compononts to 'real' parts. At age 68, there's a bit of tremor showing
up in the hands, and I'd rather build it the old way.
I have a TT Herc II (actually 2 of them) that I used with my old Omni VI+'s.
The second remains with my 2nd Omni VI+.
I like the amp and use it with my Orion II. I just want to be lazy and never
forget to change bands. The 311 is the ideal choice.
If I do build, that will go behind a couple of other projucts that are on
the bench. (there's an RX antenna preamp and filter, an SO2R digital
interface for CW & FSK RTTY on my Orion II & Omni VII, 2 Omni D's that need
major work and some other projects). Not complaining, if I didn't love it, I
wouldn't do it
I run N1MM as both a daily and a contest logger. I could have it send band
data for the amp. Oh, yeah, I plan to do that to switch antennas if I ever
get to it
Anyway, I'll reread your item on the Wiki & see what works out
Again, thanks for the reply.

Dave,
Depending upon what you are interfacing with, you may be able to use a
decoder similar to the one I built to drive my 253 Antenna Coupler. See

I need a TenTec 311 Band Decoder and the cable that shipped with it. Anybody
got a spare or one they're not using
I can pay via PayPal, personal check (yeah, I know I'll have to wait for it
to clear) or USPS MO
Thanks & HNY
