    There is a digital number you input for each S meter level which is done in 
the menu. You use the multi knob to set a nr in for each S meter reading. I 
found mine to be way off.
    So, I brought my orion to work and put it on our COM120 service monitor 
which has a high degree of calibration. You can be set for uv or DB and turn it 
to any level.
   .With S9 at 50mv on 14mc , I was able to "dial in" increments of 10db, and 
calibrate the meter .Below S9- things were little tricky, and I remember having 
to "spread" out the nrs. Anyway, I should have published these a long time ago. 
They appear to be pretty good. Yes preamp on.
