Goose etc.,
There was a spatial CW processor design published by the RSGB in RadCom, called
the "Stereocode". It used a combination of phase shifting and frequency
filtering to generate a stereophonic effect. The design was quite complex,
as I recall, but I know several were built & used. Reports of its effectiveness
varied, much as today's continuing dialogue about DSP. Sorry, but I don't
have a proper reference, not even a rough publication date I'm afraid.
I experimented with a much simpler design: a crude LPF for left ear, HPF for
right. It works, to a degree, and makes it a bit easier to listen through
a wide CW filter for specific callers ... but it takes some getting used to and
IMHO it's a bit of a gimmick, worth half a db better S/N maybe but not a patch
on an experienced, alert & fired-up operator hungry for QSOs.
These days, it should be relatively easy to do the phasing and filtering thing
in DSP, surely?
