IMHO the best receiving antenna on top band is properly installed beverage
antenna which is at least 240m long ( 240 - 400m long).
Such an antenna installed 1.5 m above ground and used with variable gain
preamplifier combined with 160m BC filter will give you very good S/N ratio
and hardly could be beaten by other known RX antennas.
But TOP band is such unpredictable band that anything can go in given
situation. There were times I was coping the station only on TX verticals or
on shorty 80m long wire 0.5m above ground, or on single element 40m band
Loop which was only 2m above ground !?!?!
So, the more RX antennas available the better.
Some guys years ago proposed using a wire made 160m yagi 3m above ground.
Never tried it myself , but why not to experiment a bit ?
