I used my Elecraft k2 ( driving an alpha amp) in the contest. The =
receiver really was noticeably better than my TS-850S (with an outboard =
DSP). It was much quieter and less tiring to use. There seemed to be =
less adjacent signal splatter and front end overload. The numbers =
apparently really do make a difference. In the search and pounce mode =
I used it with all the filters cranked in and it really sounded like the =
band was made up of separated signals with quiet spaces in between. In =
the cq mode I had to open it up a bit to avoid missing signals that were =
not exactly on my frequency. It could use a better noise blanker like =
most receivers I have used (I have electric fence problems also). Does =
anyone have experience with a noise blanker that can be used on a =
crowded band? Conditions were poor here especially on the second night, =
but, was still great fun as always. The biggest thrill was having =
VY2ZM answer my cq ( I only worked one W1). See you all in the Stew =
Perry test. Have a great holiday season.
