i did that once, with epsom salts, a long time ago. later,used a car jack to 
pull the rod up (?? should have movedit DOWN another 6 inches) and man, was the 
copper corroded,big time. on the other hand somewhere i saw somebody 
recommendingkitty litter. seems less agressive, but not tried here. plus, i'm 
with jim, it wont make much difference in rfefficiency... FWIW73, good luck,
