This site shows the interplanetary magnetic field as it impinges on earth's
magnetic field for the last 7 days
http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/ace/MAG_7d.html
A somewhat simplified explanation of the meaning of the data is here
http://spaceweather.com/glossary/imf.html
There was a clear correlation between thw Bz field and the sudden propagation
in the 10 meter contest Sunday as it shifted from northern polarization
(Bz+) to southern polarization (Bz-)
Looking back a few days there seems to be some correlations between some of the
displayed parameters with 160 meter conditions
If enough people collect data on the time and direction of 160 meter openings
from their QTH we should be able to see if a pattern develops with changes in
the polarization of the magnetic fields
Initially it would appear that the 160 meter effects are primarily during rapid
changes in the field directions while higher frequency effects follow the field
stabalizing in a particular orientation
