Subj: [CADXA DX Talk] VooDoo Contest Group at 9K2HN - an update
CADXA people:
We are starting to pack our bags for this year's adventure. This trip
will be one for ages, I believe. Our basic missions are to break the
15-year old record score for Asia in CQWW DX CW set by a Super Station
built at A61AJ in the late 90's and to have fun.
Here is the plan..
On 20 Nov, Mike (KC7V), Bud (N7CW) and I (AA7A) will board our flight to
start the two day trip to Kuwait City (local time UTC +3). We arrive
Saturday AM and will meet our host, Hamad (9K2HN). We will then travel
to the contest site which is located in the northern part of
Kuwait...roughly 5 miles from the YI border. We will walk through the
contest site and make last minute lists of needed items that can be
obtained back in the city. After we pick up the necessary material on
Sunday, 23 November, the three of us will likely move in to the contest
station in Abdali for the duration of the trip.
Through the week before the contest, we will be busy building LF receive
antennas, a 160 meter TX antenna or two and assembling a sixth operating
position during the days while at the contest location. We are also
bringing WARC band dipoles to hang off the towers during the week before
the contest. While not building the station, eating or sleeping, we more
than likely will be operating radios.
Here is a set of times when we will likely be looking for suffering 6's
and 7's from the contest site during the week before the contest.
Activity should start on 24 Nov except for 160:
160 m (starting Wed 26 Nov, likely) 01 to 04Z
80 m SP 01 to 04Z; LP 14 to 15Z
40 m SP 01 to 04Z; LP 14 to 15Z
30 m SP 00 to 03Z
20 m SP 00 to 03Z and 13 to 16Z
17 m SP 14 to 18Z
15 m SP 14 to 18Z
12 m SP 15 to 17Z
10 m SP 15 to 16Z
The balance of the team (G3XTT, G4FON, G4IRN, N4QS and W6RGG) arrives on
Thursday, 27 November. We will operate in the Multi/Multi class in CQWW
DX CW with the 8 visiting VooDudes and Hamad, 9K2HN, as operators. With
9 operators and 6 operating positions, each operator will have around 27
hours at the bottom of a pileup.
We will depart Kuwait City on 2 December for a particularly long day in
order to touch back down in our respective home QTH's later that day (as
we cross 10 or so time zones). Dave, N4QS (a former CADXA member), has a
different adventure planned. His trip to the middle east is part of a
round-the-globe itinerary he will be pulling off. So, he will continue
on to the East while the rest of us go the other way on departure day.
I will try to post daily updates on our progress and expected operating
practices. Hopefully we can help you make a few tick marks in your band
slot charts for 9K.
73 and GL from all the VooDudes.
Ned
