While I have not seen the discussed in band CW and FT8 RX/TX design, it is an entirely different problem to have 2 narrow slices that don't move in band vs having 2 TX/RX stations that need to operate on any set of frequencies of the entire CW or SSB portion of a band. 5khz and 3 khz separated by 50khz is the challenge required by the described DXpedition issue.
