The tubular material you purchased, marked sch40, is schedule 40 PIPE.
You can get information on it in engineering handbooks.  It's not 
overly strong, although it's plenty heavy.

I have a 21' piece of it, also slightly bent, for much the same reason.
But windgusts weren't anywhere near what you experienced.
