My solution to this problem is to cut a piece of PVC lengthwise
and place it over the tower leg to prevent chewing up the leg /
galvanizing. I also drill ONE additional hole for each U bolt,
spaced to accomodate a 1-1/2 inch U bolt. Works like a champ
for 24 ft boom antennas (and aluminum trap dipoles such as the
D3W).
