     The lesson to be learned here is it IS possible for long wire fences
running in proximity to and parallel with high-voltage power lines to have
electric energy coupled into them.  Caveat Amateur!

OK, may we follow this to the next obvious step, please? To use an emergency preparedness term, mitigation?

Should the barbed wire fence be grounded at regular intervals,
say at each post, so as to break up resonance and bleed off
energy (be it from power lines or from lightning)?
