I agree with Pete. I have seen some installations by hams that even Evil
Knievel wouldn't climb. Others built by 'amateurs' are well constructed. I
make it a point to never climb someone else's tower. There are too many
dangerous variables that may crop up. I don't like surprises 100 feet in the
air.
I have seen some big towers only set in dirt and guyed with cheesy 1/8
cable. In Florida the life of a section of steel tower buried in the soil
down
here is very short. Lots of 'amateur' installations are just
that......amateur.
