Yes, but in the case of cable on spool, the diameter is increasing with each
layer of cable so you would have to factor that in also. If you want to come
up with a mathematical formula for this, you will also have to consider the
width of the spool and the thickness of the cable because that will
determine how many turns you get in each layer, and the thickness of the
cable will determine how many layers will fit on the spool.
Sounds like a good brain exercise!!
