Hello Tower Talkers,
For those of you using stacked 204BA's, what modifications
did you make (if any) to the stock 204BA dimensions to make
them better suited for stacking? There are a number of
variations of "optimized 204BA" designs out there (QHS, BV,
etc) and I'm curious to know if any of them happen to be
preferred in a stacked arrangement.
I currently have a single 204BA at 115' which I built with
the W6QHS tip length changes. I am rearranging antennas and
will be putting 204BA's at 102' and 52' instead to improve
stateside performance on 20M. Experience has shown and HFTA
tends to confirm that the single antenna at 115' is a bit
too high for domestic use most of the time.
If I understand what I've been reading correctly, an
optimized design for a single yagi is not neccessarily the
best design when planning to use a pair of them in a stack.
In my case tower height and guy wire clearance pretty much
dictate placing the antennas at 102'/52' or 117'/52' with
the latter seemingly too far apart for 26' boom yagis.
I plan to experiment with HFTA, YW and YO but would also
like to hear your thoughts on the subject. Perhaps this is
a case of "the enemy of good enough is better" and I should
just go with the stock 204BA dimensions and get it over
with. However, using the BV204CA dimensions as an example,
the antenna F/R looks decent with a single yagi but doesn't
look so hot for a pair of them at 102'/52' (unless I'm doing
something wrong)!
