I have used 7/8" Andrews N connectors on European cable but not the
splice. I found that the outer conductor wasn't as much a problem as the
inner conductor which has a larger diameter than the screw in center pin
of the Andrews connector. What I did to make it work was to shim the
Andrews center pin with thin copper flashing then screw in the center
pin. These connections have been working for about 4 years in Amateur
Radio service.

We also spliced 2 runs of 1 5/8" cable on a tower using a short jumper
of LMR400 between the upper and lower runs. They both had N females and
the jumper was about 12-14" to allow for some flexing. That has been
working for a couple of years again in Amateur Radio service.

Will an Andrews L45Z for 7/8" heliax work with Eupen
7/8" heliax?

My gut feeling is no since the Eupen heliax outer
conductor OD is slightly smaller than that of the
Andrews equivalent.

However, of anyone has successfully used an L45Z on
Eupen 7/8" heliax (Eupen part number is EC5-50-A),
then I would be interested in your feedback.

Note that in my application the cable is not under
longtudinal load at the location of the splice, so the
splice will not have to support a mechanical load
along its axis.

Jeff
