Counterpoint: Kerosene does not interfere with oil based paint adhesion.
My dad used it for years on barns and outbuildings. Best thing is to mix it
1/2 with raw linseed oil. It carries the linseed into the grain and it can
stand the weather for years,. Coal oil worked better but is no longer
available. Many old ways work just great without many more modern
chemicals.

Just a note about using Kerosene to for killer wasp prevention.
The stuff will dissolve the binder in shingles.
It stains wood with an oily stain
AND...It will smell for weeks and weeks...and ....
If it gets though onto the plaster it will stain the plaster as well as
making the plaster "paint proof" in many cases.
Oh! Kerosene and Diesel fuel? There is only a slight difference between
the two in addition to some additives and lubricants in diesel fuel that
are not in kerosene.
