I needed a 160 foot crane boom to remove the old tower
and install the new one, because the only access was
from the street in front of the house.
(In fact, the Crane company had to file and get a
permit from the City of Dallas to get a legal
temporary closure of the street, since their rig
and braces spanned about 2/3 of width of the street.
And a policeman stopped to verify they had a
permit, and then watched for a half hour.
Their salesman had come by two days prior, saw what was
needed, scheduled it, the crane was here from 9 until 2,
including lunch for their skilled drive, and I paid a
half hour travel both ways to/from their garage, and
it was $750 with taxes in 2003.

But I'm really posting this note to remind you that
if you DO rent a crane, after everything is in place,
have the crane driver set the boom vertical, and have
him lift you and your bride to have a vertical view
of your property from 160 feet.
(You can see our pictures at www.mxg.com, lower left,
but what's missing is the shot of Judy (KA5PQD) left
hand clutching tightly to the basket's rail, her
blood vessels bulging, as the crane lifted us at what
seemed like 30MPH!)

Might be.. I'm not sure what operators go for, and whether you'd be paying
for a minimum 8 hour day, too.

I did a quick search..

4 ton stinger to 110 ft is $125/hr, 3 hr min

A 118' boom with a personnel basket is $120/hr, 3 hr min

So, yep, looks like crane/basket is probably better if you can get the job
done in a few hours. If it's an all day affair, the boom lift might be a
better deal.

In any case, $500 looks like a decent estimate to use "equipment" rather
than climbing.
