I had a similar experience when the drive chain broke on a friends
HDX-589. Incredibly poor design to put the weakest link (the chain) in
the drive line after the worm drive.
It really makes me appreciate my LM-470 that has a belt drive from the
motor to a worm gear and the output of the worm gear is welded to the
cable drum. If the belt should break nothing will happen.
