A local has one of those - he's very active in contesting and dx so the
amp gets used a LOT. Excellent amp but super sensitive to feedline &
switching integrity. I think in each case he has tracked it down to
something out in the field. Based on the description I would guess
there is a problem outside somewhere.

W1JCW's issue is probably antenna / feedline related so towertalk may be more
appropriate. I tried to use an Acom 2000a on AI6V (sk) / P49V's SteppIR and it
would not stay on even for a second. I am guessing that there was minor arcing
in the antenna tape or other connection after being exposed to constant salt
spray for several years.
