You can enter wire diameter in AWG, SWG, inches, or millimeters.
I=E2=80=99ve exchanged email with Jim. He based his accuracy conclusion on =
measurements at 1 kHz with an LCR meter. Due to self-resonance, the effecti=
ve inductance of a coil increases with frequency. COIL.EXE reports effectiv=
e inductance at the frequency specified.
I measured a couple dozen test coils with my HP 4342A Q meter. Then I compa=
red measured inductance and Q with values calculated by COIL.EXE. Average i=
nductance error was 2.5% and average Q error was 7.9%. Complete results are=
in COILS.TXT, which is included with coil.zip.
