But boy is RG303 pricey!

Even still, I make my UN-UNs and line isolators out of it because the little beads that fit around it are so much cheaper than the big beads that fit around RG213!

Pete,

When faced with the problem of getting enough turns through a core, I often use RG303 (equiv. Belden #84303).  It's O.D. is 0.17-inch and its materials composition is in the same class as RG142.  RG303 is used in several Alpha amplifier models.  You'll also see it used in several models from Balun Design.

John and others - I recently bought 10 feet of what is sold as surplus RG-400.  At least it has silver-plated shield and center conductors, though no printed markings.  My plan was to wind a common mode choke for my 160-meter Inverted L. I was using a #31 big snap-on, and found it impossible, because of the stiffness of the coax, to get more than about 8 turns on the core, and they wouldn't lie down at all.  The jumper I have is extremely flexible, and would be a cinch for the job.

Why do you want this?  RG-400 is available surplus for $<2 ft,
Amphenol connectors fit it perfectly and it is excellent for
connecting equipment in the shack.  I have used Teflon coax outdoors
too with no issues.  If you hate soldering you can buy RG-400 /
Amphenol 83-1SP assemblies at DX Engineering.

Maybe 8-10 years ago at Dayton I bought a 3-foot jumper of coaxial
cable with PL-259s (and reducers) on both ends.  It looks like RG-400,
about the same diameter and with the clear jacket, but is much more
flexible, and the braid is not silver-plated.  Anyone know what this
is, and where I can get more of it?
