1) If you have soft limits available, you set them at appropriate spots.

2) If you thought it through as far as which leg of the tower to use, you shouldn't often need to get close to hitting the tower.

3) If you're using a typical low torque rotator, no damage is done if you run the boom into the tower. The point of impact is far enough from the rotator that there isn't much force happening out there. Arrange your cabling so it doesn't get squeezed in that event.

4) You could devise a cushion. You're not going to harm the tower. But you don't want to leave the boom parked against the tower where constant wind could eventually impact an aluminum boom if it's a thin walled type.
